Admission to University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine is based on academic ability and personal qualities, as evidenced by:

  1. Scholastic Records

    • Applicants must have successfully completed at least three years of full-time education before being considered for acceptance

      • Semesters with four courses are only accepted if courses were taken in other academic years or in the summer

    • University of Ottawa uses a special weighting formula to determine WGPA. Please click here to learn more about it.

    • Prerequisites include two semester courses of General Biology with lab, two courses of Humanities or Social Science and four semester courses of either General Biochemistry, General Chemistry with lab, and Organic Chemistry with lab.

  2. Detailed Autobiographical Sketch

    • The autobiographical sketch will allow an assessor to judge how well-rounded the candidate is. For each section, the top three items should be included, and must have been completed during postsecondary studies. The sections are:

      • Formal education 

      • Employment 

        • chronological order and indicate education level during employment, part-time or full-time, academic year or summer, total number of hours and number of years. Job title and responsibilities should also be included.

      • Volunteer Activities 

        • Same details as employment expected and the location of the volunteer work

      • Extracirricular Activities 

        • Same details as employment expected and also the type of activity - individual, team or club activitity.

        • For sports activites , include the level you performed in.

      • Awards and Accomplishments

        • University entrance scholarships, service awards, humanitarian awards, community awards/service, athletic scholarship. 

        • Specific when you received the award

      • Research

        • Specify your education level and title of project. Indicate the type of publications

    • Interviews are usually held in Feburary-March and will be invited based on minimum WGPA set and results of non-academic assessments.

Tuition is ~$25,000 a year, for a total of four years.
